Barpeta celebrates Doul Utsav

The Doul Utsav is being celebrated in Barpeta today with great enthusiasm. The festive atmosphere has been evident throughout the town since early morning, with the air filled with the melodies of traditional Holi songs.

Alongside the celebrations, various Sattriya traditions and rituals are also being observed. As part of the customs, rituals were performed today after offering prayers to the Gosains.

Later in the day, the Gosain will be placed on the ceremonial dola (palanquin) and taken to Kalbari Satra. After the completion of traditional rituals, the deity will be brought back to the Barpeta Satra, where the ritual of “Baah Bhanga Parba” (Bamboo Breaking Ceremony) will be performed.

Following this, the Gosain will be taken around the main premises of the Satra in seven ceremonial circumambulations before being reinstalled at the original place.

According to the chief priest, the completion of these rituals will mark the conclusion of this year's Doul Mahotsav in Barpeta.
