New Delhi, February 26 India must maintain readiness with indigenous chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) defense equipment for early warning systems, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan said on Thursday.
General Chauhan was addressing a CBRN conclave organized by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
"CBRN should be considered more as an environment than a threat, and we should prepare ourselves to learn to live and operate in contaminated environments," he said.
The Chief of Defence Staff commended the work done by the DRDO towards achieving self-reliance in CBRN defense technologies.
Quoting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, General Chauhan said, "India will not be deterred by nuclear blackmail."
He emphasized the need to maintain readiness with indigenous, state-of-the-art CBRN defense equipment for early warning systems, as well as well-researched standard operating procedures and protocols to carry out coordinated operations in synergy with the military and civilian establishment.
General Chauhan made these remarks after inaugurating the two-day conclave.
