March 03, New Delhi – Cyprus remains on high alert following a drone strike on Britain’s Royal Air Force base at Akrotiri, which caused minor damage but no casualties.
The attack involved an Iranian-made Shahed drone, likely launched by Hezbollah from Lebanon, and occurred just after midnight on Monday. This marks the first such incident on the base since 1986, further escalating regional tensions.
According to the Cyprus News Agency, France plans to supply anti-missile and anti-drone systems to strengthen Cyprus’s defenses.
European Council President Antonio Costa expressed the European Union’s unwavering support and solidarity to Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides in a phone call. Costa also praised Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis for Greece’s military assistance and welcomed Lebanon’s efforts to curb Hezbollah’s military activities.
