
Hyderabad, April 5 The Telangana government has launched a skill development program that will include training transgender people in drone piloting, hotel management, and car driving, etc.
State Minister for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Senior Citizens, and Transgender Persons, Adluri Lakshman Kumar, who inaugurated the program on Saturday, said the state government is implementing several initiatives to ensure that transgender people live with dignity and respect in society.
He emphasized that the government has taken note of the long-standing social and economic challenges faced by the transgender community, an official release said.
The minister said the government is focusing on education, skill development, and employment opportunities for transgender people, enabling them to achieve economic self-reliance and self-respect.
As many as 50 transgender people will receive car driver training through the "Maruti Suzuki Driving School".
The training will enable trans people to secure employment as drivers and also create opportunities for self-employment, it said.
Through the National Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Management (NITHM) here, 25 transgender people will be trained in Hotel Management and Canteen Chef skills. This would help them obtain employment opportunities in hotels, restaurants, and catering establishments.
The release said 16 transgender people will receive Drone Pilot training at the Telangana State Aviation Academy, Begumpet. Drone technology is in demand in sectors such as agriculture, surveying, and industry, the release added.
Through these three programs, a total of 91 transgender people will receive training with an expenditure of Rs 17.72 lakh, for which the government has allocated special funds.
Following a suggestion made by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, the Hyderabad Police had earlier appointed transgender individuals as traffic assistants to help the policemen.
