March 19 The Mizoram Excise and Narcotics Department reported in its latest report that 19 people have died this year due to drug abuse, bringing the total number of such deaths since 1984 to 2,016.

The report stated that the 19 drug-related deaths were recorded up to March 19. Of these 19 deaths, 17 were male and two were female.

The report also stated that in 2025, a total of 118 people, including 18 females, died due to drug abuse.

Since 1984, a total of 2,016 people have died due to drug abuse, including 1,770 males and 246 females, the report stated.

Authorities noted that while heroin is the primary cause of death, a growing number of users are dying after mixing it with various pharmaceutical drugs.

The first drug-related death was recorded in Mizoram in 1984.
