Gurugram, April 6 Two allegedly drunk youths attacked a married couple when they questioned their reckless driving, police said on Monday.
The woman immediately called the police's women's helpline for help, and police arrived at the scene and apprehended both the accused, they said. The couple runs a startup together.
When police searched the accused, they recovered a pistol. Alcohol tests revealed that Ajay from Ghaziabad and Manoj Sharma from Delhi were highly intoxicated.
An FIR was registered at the Manesar police station, and police arrested both the accused.
According to the complaint, Pooja Jain and her husband, Sunil Raghav, were returning to Gurugram from Bawal in their car. When they arrived just outside the Manesar Polytechnic, a recklessly driven car almost hit them. They narrowly escaped, but the two men were busy drinking and using their phones, Jain said in her complaint.
"I pulled my car over to the side, urging the men to stop. Then, one of the men attacked my husband, Sunil Raghav, and tried to push him off the bridge. I immediately called the women's helpline, 1091, for help. When I tried to save my husband, the accused attacked me as well, but in the meantime, police PCR reached the spot and took both the accused into custody," the complainant said.
Police said a case has been registered against both accused under various sections of the BNS, including the Arms Act, for illegal possession of a firearm.
"We are questioning the accused and are investigating the origin of the pistol and whether it was used for any other criminal purpose. Both the accused were produced in a city court today and sent to judicial custody," said a senior police officer.
