Guwahati, April 7 – Former South African cricketer Faf Du Plessis has cautioned the Hardik Pandya-led team against losing wickets during the powerplay and also to ensure that the Rajasthan Royals don't get a good start.
Sooryavanshi has continued his excellent form from the previous season, scoring 83 runs in two matches. He smashed a 50-run innings in just 15 balls in the Rajasthan Royals' first match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), and he poses a significant threat to the Mumbai Indians, who are coming into the match after losing to Delhi Capitals (DC) by six wickets and are desperate to regain their winning form.
Du Plessis has advised the Mumbai Indians to avoid three key things if they want to win against RR. "Firstly, don't give Sooryavanshi space. He is dominating the game," Du Plessis said in a video released by Star Sports. "Secondly, make sure you don't lose wickets in the powerplay, as they heavily rely on their top order. And my third point is, make sure RR doesn't get off to a good start," he said.
Sooryavanshi set the IPL 2025 season on fire with his record-breaking century, but he failed to perform against the five-time champions. He was dismissed for a duck in just two balls by Mumbai Indians bowler Deepak Chahar, and therefore, the left-handed batsman will aim to make amends.
In their past encounters, the Mumbai Indians have a slight edge over the Rajasthan Royals, having won 16 of their 31 matches, while RR has won 14, with one match ending in a No Result. In 2024, RR dominated, winning both encounters, but the Mumbai Indians struck back in 2025 with a massive 100-run victory in Jaipur.
