New Delhi, March 24 The National Green Tribunal has directed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the Irrigation and Flood Control Department of the Delhi government to take appropriate remedial action regarding the regular cleaning and maintenance of the Palam drain in Dwarka.
The green body was hearing a petition alleging the discharge of untreated sewage and industrial waste from nearby areas into the Palam drain, which runs adjacent to a residential area in Dwarka Sector-3.
The petition claimed that the authorities had not regularly cleaned and desilted the drain.
In an order dated March 23, a bench of expert members, A Senthil Vel and Afroz Ahmad, said that the drain required regular monitoring, cleaning, and maintenance by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the Irrigation and Flood Control Department (IFCD).
"Therefore, we dispose of this original application, directing the MCD and IFCD to look into the grievance of the applicant and take appropriate remedial action expeditiously," the tribunal said.
