EAM Jaishankar Highlights India's Support for Myanmar's Future.webp

External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar stated today that Myanmar is at the intersection of India's three key foreign policy priorities: "Neighborhood First," "Act East," and "SAGAR" (which includes the Indo-Pacific). Speaking at the inauguration of the Sarsobeikman Literary Centre building, Dr. Jaishankar said that the centre is a symbol of India's close bilateral relationship. He added that the Sarsobeikman Centre will support the preservation and study of Myanmar's classical and folk literature. He also stated that the centre will make Myanmar's heritage accessible to younger generations and a wider audience.

Highlighting the cooperation between the two countries, Dr. Jaishankar said that India's engagement with Myanmar has been people-centric and driven by demand. He further stated that projects, including the Kaladan Multimodal Transit Transport Project, are aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and promoting regional growth. The Minister also said that continued cooperation will enhance trade and people-to-people connections between the countries. He also emphasized that India has always supported Myanmar during difficult times, such as during the COVID pandemic and other natural disasters. Dr. Jaishankar reaffirmed that India supports an inclusive, Myanmar-led, and Myanmar-owned peace process that can deliver lasting peace and development for all in Myanmar.
