New Delhi, March 9 India favors peace and a return to dialogue and diplomacy, and advocates for de-escalation, restraint, and the safety of civilians, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Monday regarding the escalating conflict in West Asia.
Speaking on the conflict in the Rajya Sabha, he said the well-being and security of the Indian community in the region remains the government's priority.
"We will continue to work with the governments in the region towards a peaceful resolution," he said. "Our national interests, including energy security and trade goals, will always be paramount."
Regarding the rise in energy prices following the conflict, which erupted when the US and Israel attacked Iran, and Tehran retaliated by attacking US bases in neighboring regions, as well as Israel, he said the government remains committed to ensuring energy security, taking into full account the availability, costs, and risks of energy markets.
"For us, the interests of Indian consumers will always be the overriding priority. When required, Indian diplomacy has supported the endeavors of our energy enterprises in this volatile situation," he said.
