
New Delhi, February 26 At least five unidentified men on motorcycles allegedly opened fire at a house in the Farsh Bazar area of east Delhi, an official said on Thursday.
CCTV footage of the incident also went viral on social media, showing a motorcyclist and a scooter rider firing at the entrance gate of the house.
According to police, the incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday.
Police said a PCR call regarding firing near Old Tejab Mill was received at the Farsh Bazar police station around 1:30 am. A team rushed to the spot and found that the alleged assailants had fled.
"Preliminary investigation revealed that two persons on a motorcycle and three on a scooter arrived outside the house of Talib (29). Two of the assailants allegedly took out pistols and fired one round each towards the house before escaping," the officer said.
Police said two empty cartridges were recovered from the scene during inspection. No injuries were reported in the incident.
Talib runs fruit and vegetable stalls at a nearby mandi, police said, adding that the motive behind the firing is yet to be established. Officials said police are investigating various angles such as old enmity, ransom, and possible threats.
"We are investigating the case from all angles. Although the exact reason behind the attack is being verified. CCTV cameras installed in and around the area are being examined to ascertain the identity of the accused and the registration numbers of the vehicles used in the crime," the officer said.
He said that statements of the complainant and other witnesses have been recorded, a case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
