New Delhi, March 31 Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Tuesday lauded the contribution of eastern Uttar Pradesh, popularly known as Purvanchal, saying it has played a crucial role in India's culture.

Addressing an event here to honor the profound connection between the people of the region and their ancestral roots, Birla hailed Purvanchal for its immense contributions to India's cultural and spiritual identity.

He emphasized that the "soil" of Purvanchal represents more than just earth, but also a symbol of resilience, tradition, and a vibrant communal spirit.

"The fragrance of our soil defines our identity," he remarked, stressing that such festivals are essential to ensure that the youth remain connected to their heritage even as they achieve global success.

Highlighting the importance of cultural preservation, Birla underscored the importance of safeguarding local dialects, folk arts, and traditional cuisines. He noted that these elements not only preserve history but also strengthen India's national fabric.
