The Election Commission announced today that 1955 candidates are contesting elections in Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, and by-elections in four states, which will be held on April 9th. In a statement, the election body said that 722 candidates from Assam, 890 from Kerala, and 294 from Puducherry will be participating in the elections. Additionally, 49 candidates will contest by-elections in four states, including 3 from Goa, 34 from Karnataka, 6 from Nagaland, and 6 from Tripura. The statement also noted that 250 candidates withdrew their nominations. The deadline for withdrawing nominations was yesterday at 3 pm.
