February 25th, Aizawl: Under the "Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat" initiative, Mizoram Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh presided over the joint Foundation Day celebration of Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh at Lok Bhavan today.

In his address, Governor Singh praised both states for overcoming geographical challenges to achieve remarkable developmental progress. Highlighting their strategic importance to India's Act East Policy, he noted that the recent opening of the Bairabi-Sairang Railway Line has significantly boosted internal connectivity and tourism in Mizoram.

The Governor drew special attention to the unique strengths of each state, referring to Mizoram as the "Ginger Capital of India" and a beacon of literacy, while describing Arunachal Pradesh as the "Land of the Rising Sun," celebrated for its kiwi cultivation and hydropower potential. He urged the younger generation to continue fostering cooperation to help realize the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047.

The event featured a video message from Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen KT Parnaik (Retd) and presentations on state history by academic scholars. The celebration was enlivened by cultural performances from students of RIPANS and Government T. Romana College, followed by an informal interaction between the Governor and attendees.

Both Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh achieved full statehood on February 20, 1987, becoming India's 23rd and 24th states, respectively.
