Elderly Couple Found Dead in Madhya Pradesh.webp

Guna (MP), April 3 The bodies of an elderly couple were found at their house in Guna town, Madhya Pradesh, on Friday, with police suspecting it to be a case of suicide.

The bodies of the deceased, identified as 70-year-old Dilip Kumar Goyal and his wife Kiran (65), were found at the residence located in Dhakad Colony within the Kotwali police station limits, an official said.

While the man was found hanging, his wife's body was found on a bed in another room. The incident came to light when neighbors and family members became suspicious, he said.

"Dilip Kumar was found hanging from a noose in one room, while his wife was found dead on a bed in another room. It is suspected that the man committed suicide by hanging himself, and his wife possibly ended her life by consuming poison. However, the actual cause of their death will be known after the post-mortem," the police official said.

The police have collected evidence with the help of a forensic team, he said.

"The police are closely investigating every aspect of the case to determine what led the elderly couple to end their lives. A case has been registered in connection with this," the official said.

The victims' grandson, Pankaj Goyal, said, "My grandmother had been mentally unstable for a long time. She received treatment at various places, including in Bhopal and Indore. Sometimes, she couldn't even recognize her children. My grandfather also struggled a lot and got her treated. I don't know what he did that night. We spoke at 6 pm, and he said he wanted to eat dal-bati (dish) the next morning."

Guna Superintendent of Police Hitika Vasal said the couple's bodies were found at their home in Dhakad Colony.

The bodies have been sent to the district hospital for post-mortem, and an investigation is underway, she said.
