New Delhi, March 16 The Election Commission of India on Monday directed the Tamil Nadu government to appoint new police superintendents in four districts.

The EC made the decision after reviewing the state's preparedness for upcoming assembly elections, which will be held in a single phase on April 23.

According to the order, D N Harikiran Prasad, D V Kiran Shruthi, Sujith Kumar, and N Shreenatha have been appointed as SPs in Karur, Erode, Nagapattinam, and Virudhunagar, respectively.

The EC stated that its directions should be implemented immediately, and a compliance report should be submitted by 11:00 am on Tuesday.

Earlier in the day, the commission had also transferred SSP-level officers in Assam, which is also holding elections.
