New Delhi, March 16 On Monday, the Election Commission wrote to the Chief Secretary of Assam, requesting a list of all IAS officers from the 2010 to 2021 batches. As a result, several District Election Officers (DEOs) in the state, which is preparing for elections, are likely to be replaced.
The state has 35 districts. A DEO is a senior administrative official, typically the District Magistrate or Collector, appointed by the Election Commission.
Officials said that the election authority is not satisfied with the performance of several DEOs and wants to appoint new officials.
Assam will hold its assembly elections on April 9 in a single phase. The votes will be counted on May 4.
