March 5, New Delhi – Nepal's youngest generation of voters turned out in significant numbers during the recent elections, demonstrating their importance in shaping the country's future. After casting their votes, many young voters expressed hopes for a corruption-free government and called for better education and accessible healthcare across the country.

"I'm really excited and eager to see the results. This time we have more educated candidates and some really good choices. I hope they win and make our country better," said a young voter.

Another young voter said people are hoping the new leadership will work to reduce corruption. "We cannot expect sudden change, but the least they can do is reduce corruption and focus on development in education and healthcare," the voter said.

Nepal voted on Thursday to elect a new parliament in a high-stakes contest. This is the first general election in the country since the youth protests in 2025.

Key details:

Nearly 19 million people were eligible to vote.

Sixty-five parties contested the election for 275 seats in the House of Representatives.

Of these, 165 members are elected directly, while 110 are chosen through proportional representation.
