New Delhi, February 25 Smartphones have become India's top export category, with overseas shipments worth $30 billion expected in 2025, Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Wednesday.

The minister shared the development in a social media post.

"Becoming the world's smartphone manufacturing hub," Vaishnaw said.

The post, titled "Smartphones: India's No. 1 export category," showed that exports were worth $30 billion from January to December 2025.

Mobile phones worth ₹5.5 lakh crore (USD 60 billion) were produced in the country, and exports from this segment were worth around ₹2 lakh crore (approximately USD 22 billion) in 2024-25.

Electronics exports from the country have exceeded ₹4 lakh crore (USD 44 billion) in 2025, and are expected to grow further when four semiconductor plants begin production this year.

Neil Shah, Co-Founder and VP for Research at market research and analysis firm Counterpoint, said that Apple has become a shining example of India's manufacturing capabilities, particularly after the US imposed tariffs on China and as exports from India reached a record high.

"India is expected to produce almost 30 million units of mobile phones, and one in four smartphones produced in India is estimated to be exported in 2025," Shah said.

"The high average selling price (ASP) or premium market, driven by Apple, Samsung, and Motorola, is a major export destination, further boosting the export value to record levels," he added.

According to the International Data Corporation's Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker for the third quarter of 2025, Apple achieved its highest-ever domestic supply of 5 million iPhones in a single quarter.

Apple leads both the premium (smartphones priced between ₹53,000 and ₹71,000 apiece) and super-premium (priced above ₹71,000 apiece) segments, which drove the growth of the country's smartphone market in the September quarter.
