Erode (Tamil Nadu), March 6 A male elephant has died of electrocution in the Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve in this district, according to forest officials.

Based on the information, a team of forest personnel visited a private land in Kadaganalli forest village within the Kadambur forest Range in the Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve (STR) on Thursday and found a dead male elephant.

The forest veterinary team that was summoned to the spot declared that the elephant had been electrocuted.

Recording the incident and the veterinarian's statement, the forest personnel and Kadambur police registered cases against the land owner, Puttusamy.

Puttusamy cultivated a maize crop on his land, and to prevent animals from entering, he erected a wire fence and illegally connected it to a power source. The elephant came to the area on Thursday and came into contact with the electrified fence, resulting in electrocution, officials said.
