Gayaji, February 15 A lone wild elephant strayed into a residential area in the Barachatti locality of Gayaji district in Bihar on Sunday morning, causing panic among residents, officials said.

The elephant entered the human settlement from the Chatra forest area in neighboring Jharkhand, they said.

District Forest Officer Shashikant Kumar said that no damage has been reported so far.

"The elephant entered the Barachatti locality in the morning. We are closely monitoring its movement and have taken all necessary precautions. Residents have been advised to stay indoors for the time being," Kumar told PTI.

He said that four teams from the Forest Department have been deployed to drive the animal back towards the Chatra forest.

Officials from the district police and civil administration are assisting in the operation, he added.
