
Itanagar, March 31 A 12-member expert team from Karnataka has been deployed in Deomali, in the Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh, to track and relocate an elephant that has been responsible for several human casualties in the area over the past two years, officials said on Tuesday.
The team, which arrived on Monday, is led by senior veterinary officer and elephant specialist Ramesha H, and includes experts in tranquilization, wildlife monitoring, and trained mahouts from Karnataka's elephant camps.
The operation will involve the use of 'kumki' (trained) elephants and thermal drones to help track the animal and enable its safe capture and relocation, they added.
Deomali Range Forest Officer Diwang Lowang appealed to residents to remain vigilant and immediately inform the forest department about any sighting of the elephant.
He said public cooperation would be crucial for the success of the operation.
