US President Donald Trump has stated that Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in US-Israeli airstrikes. In a social media post, Trump said Khamenei's death represents the greatest opportunity for the Iranian people to regain control of their country. The US President added that the heavy and targeted bombing would continue for several days or longer. The death of Iran's Supreme Leader occurred following a joint US and Israeli aerial bombardment that targeted Iranian military and government sites.
The Iranian state television has confirmed the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Reports indicate that approximately 40 Iranian officials were also killed in the strikes. A 40-day period of national mourning has been declared in Iran. Iranian state media reported at least 201 deaths and more than 700 injuries. In response, Iran launched attacks throughout the Middle East. Reports suggest that Iranian strikes have been carried out in Dubai, Doha, Bahrain, and Kuwait – locations with US military bases, or that are allied with the US. The United States and Israel launched coordinated attacks on Iran yesterday, sharply escalating tensions in West Asia and prompting widespread retaliation across the region.
