Given the prevailing situation in West Asia, the government has invoked the Essential Commodities Act of 1955 to regulate the production, maintain supply, ensure equitable distribution, and guarantee the availability of natural gas for priority sectors.
According to a notification from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, the priority for natural gas supply has been given to sectors including domestic piped natural gas supply, compressed natural gas for transport, LPG production (including LPG shrinkage requirements), pipeline compressor fuel, and other essential pipeline operational requirements.
The notification stated that supply will be maintained to 100 percent of their average past six-month gas consumption, subject to operational availability.
