Etah (UP), March 18 A speeding SUV crashed into a motorcycle, killing two riders, and also hit a pedestrian on a national highway stretch near Balgarhi here on Wednesday, police said.

The incident occurred when the SUV – a Mahindra Scorpio – while travelling from Jalesar to Rajawali, apparently lost control near the Sakrauli police station, they said.

According to police, the SUV driver lost control of the vehicle while trying to avoid a pedestrian walking on the roadside.

The SUV first hit a motorcycle and then ran over the pedestrian. The impact was severe, leaving the motorcycle mangled and the vehicle badly damaged.

Three people – identified as Bablu Sharma (32), a resident of Tundla, Rachna (30) of Sakrauli, and Digambar (55) of Nagla Par – died on the spot, police said.

The SUV driver, Satendra, a resident of Rajawali, sustained serious injuries and was referred to a higher medical centre after initial treatment at a government hospital in Jalesar.

Police reached the spot soon after receiving information, took the damaged vehicles into custody, and sent the bodies for post-mortem examination.

Station House Officer Nityanand Pandey said that an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances that led to the accident.
