Etah (UP), March 22 The festive atmosphere leading up to Eid turned into mourning for a family here, as a man who was ill passed away hours after his son, who had returned home to care for him, also died, officials said on Sunday.
According to police, 70-year-old Rafiq Khan was suffering from a kidney ailment and was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Agra. His son, Zakil (40), a tailor based in Mumbai, had returned to the village about a week ago after learning about his father's condition.
On March 19, Zakil brought his father home after he was discharged from the hospital. Later that night, Zakil complained of sudden chest pain, police added.
He was initially treated by a local doctor, but his condition worsened, and he was rushed to a private hospital in Jalesar, where doctors declared him dead.
The body was brought back to the village and kept at home while the family waited for his wife and children to arrive from Mumbai. Shocked by his son's death, Rafiq Khan's condition deteriorated, and he died on Friday night, they said.
The deaths within a span of around 20 hours cast a pall of gloom over the village.
Residents said Zakil's family reached the village in the Jalesar area on Saturday, after which both were buried together after afternoon prayers.
Former village head Babu Khan said that Zakil was the second of four brothers and is survived by his wife and four children.
