February 23, New Delhi – Argentine Tomas Martin Etcheverry won a hard-fought victory over Chile's Alejandro Tabilo to claim the Rio Open title.
Etcheverry battled back from a set down to defeat Tabilo in rainy conditions on the clay court for his first ATP Tour title. The rain had delayed his semi-final, forcing him to play two matches in a single day.
The 26-year-old rose to the challenge to secure his first ATP crown after finishing as runner-up in three previous finals. Etcheverry recorded his 100th tour-level match win during the tournament and has now jumped 18 places to world number 33.
