Jaipur, March 26 Former health minister Raghu Sharma alleged on Thursday that the BJP government in the state was undermining the Rajasthan Government Health Scheme (RGHS) and attempting to phase it out.
Sharma claimed that the budgetary provisions for the scheme were inadequate.
"The BJP government appears determined to end a significant scheme like RGHS. Private hospitals have threatened to stop providing treatment under the scheme and are also discussing halting the supply of medicines," he said here.
The government has allocated Rs 250 crore per month for 2025-26, amounting to Rs 3,000 crore annually; however, according to the bills being generated, the requirement is around Rs 330 crore per month, he added.
"There is a shortfall of around Rs 960 crore. This raises questions on how the scheme will function," Sharma said.
He said that outstanding dues from private hospitals under the scheme were already pending, and accused the BJP government of weakening other welfare initiatives launched by the previous Congress dispensation.
Claiming that significant work had been done in the health sector during the earlier Congress government, Sharma said that medical infrastructure at the grassroots level was strengthened, and a framework for world-class healthcare services had been developed.
"Rajasthan's health model created during the former Congress government rule was appreciated globally, and delegations from other states had visited to study it. It is unfortunate that under the present BJP rule, the state's health infrastructure is deteriorating," he said.
