The Central Research Nursery in Seer, Anantnag, is preparing to supply large quantities of saplings for the upcoming plantation season in South Kashmir.

Feb 25, Srinagar: The State Forest Research Institute's Central Research Nursery in Seer is gearing up to support a large-scale plantation drive across South Kashmir during the upcoming season.

Established in 1972, the nursery has played a key role in expanding green cover in the region for more than five decades.

Located across 15 acres in Compartment No. 3 of the Lidder Forest Division, the nursery is situated at an altitude of approximately 5,700 feet above sea level on a moderate western slope, conditions considered suitable for raising high-quality saplings.

Officials told Doordarshan that the nursery is producing substantial quantities of deodar, cypress, pine, kail, and cryptomeria seeds and saplings to meet the demand of forest divisions in South Kashmir, including the Anantnag, Lidder, Kulgam, and Shopian forest divisions. Officials said the nursery is fully equipped to meet the requirements of various forest ranges by supplying high-quality seeds and saplings suited to different terrains and ecological zones.

They said timely preparation and scientific management practices have ensured healthy planting stock for the season.

With the plantation season approaching, the nursery is preparing to dispatch large consignments to different compartments to enhance forest area and strengthen the region's green wealth.

The department expressed optimism that the drive will see higher survival rates and further expansion of forest cover, reaffirming its commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable forest management.
