Over 2.88 lakh families, covering approximately 11.55 lakh beneficiaries – including general families, pensioners, government employees, and beneficiaries under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (ABPMJAY) – are currently enrolled under the Mizoram Universal Health Care Scheme (MUHCS), the scheme's Governing Body was informed on Monday.

The MUHCS Governing Body met at the Chief Minister's Conference Hall in Aizawl, chaired by Lalduhoma, to assess the scheme's progress and outline its future strategy.

The Chief Minister expressed his appreciation to State Health Minister Lalrinpuii and MUHCS officials for their dedicated service, stating that their efforts have significantly enhanced public confidence in government healthcare delivery.

The meeting was informed that during the current year, approximately 29% of enrolled families submitted medical claims, representing about 7% of the total beneficiaries. The average approved payment per patient is Rs. 15,106.

A growing number of patients are receiving treatment in government hospitals, which account for approximately 70% of processed claims. However, higher-value claims are more common in private hospitals due to the treatment of critical conditions. The meeting emphasized the need to further strengthen government hospitals and ensure that treatable cases are managed within government or empanelled facilities whenever possible. Referral norms for non-empanelled hospitals, particularly in emergency or life-threatening situations, will also be further clarified.

On the financial front, approximately Rs. 154 crore has been received for the current year, with an additional Rs. 48 crore expected. So far, 83,682 claims have been processed, amounting to approximately Rs. 126 crore in payouts. Claims worth about Rs. 38 crore are currently under review and are expected to be cleared soon. Although the rules provide for payment to empanelled hospitals within 30 days, the government has been releasing funds on a weekly basis to avoid inconvenience.

To strengthen implementation in the coming financial year, the Governing Body approved several streamlining measures, including the establishment of a Pharma Depot to make medicines more affordable and safeguards to prevent duplicate subscription benefits.

Meanwhile, online registration for general beneficiaries for 2026-2027 under MUHCS, implemented in a cashless mode, has opened from Monday and will remain open until April 15, while offline registration will begin from March 1. Registration under MUHCS for the next fiscal year will begin on April 1.
