The Meghalaya Cabinet has approved the report of the Expert Committee on Reservation Policy.

The report will now be presented to the House on Wednesday.

The Voice of the People Party (VPP) had earlier criticised the State Government for the delay in making the report of the expert committee on the State Job Reservation Policy public.

The committee on the state reservation policy, headed by Justice (Retd) M.C. Garg, submitted its report to the Meghalaya government in June last year.

The expert committee, which was constituted in 2023, was tasked with reviewing the current reservation framework, which provides 40 per cent reservation each for the Khasi-Jaintia and Garo communities, 5 per cent for other Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes, and 15 per cent for the unreserved category.

On the other hand, the State Cabinet has approved the establishment of the Police Accountability Commission as per Section 73 of the Meghalaya Police Act, 2010. Retired IAS Officer, Peter Ingty, will be the Chairman, while another retired IAS Officer, V.R. Syiem, will be a member of the commission. The State Cabinet also approved an amendment to the Meghalaya Police Act, 2010.

Meanwhile, the Cabinet has also approved the transfer of the reorganization cell to the Home (Political Department).
