
Ludhiana, March 31 A man died and two others, including a 16-year-old girl, were injured in an explosion at an illegal firecracker manufacturing unit in Jodhan village of Ludhiana, Punjab, on Tuesday, police said.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (Mullanpur) Varinder Singh Khosa said preliminary investigations suggested that firecrackers were being illegally manufactured in the building.
The deceased has been identified as Kaif Shah, and Alisha (16) is among the two injured, the police said.
The incident occurred around 7:30 pm. The sound of an explosion was heard from a distance, causing panic in the area. Reports indicated that an explosion took place in a cylinder within the building, they said.
Upon receiving information about the explosion, police, the fire brigade, and ambulances rushed to the scene and took the injured to a nearby hospital, they said.
One of the injured said that the roof of the building also collapsed following the explosion.
The police said that further investigation into the matter is underway.
