Jammu, March 23 – A mysterious explosion occurred on Monday outside a house in a village in the Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir, as officials said the exact nature of the explosion was being investigated.
Officials said that around 2 a.m., an explosion took place outside the house of Jai Ram Sharma, a Sarpanch (village head) in the Gawala Talab village of the Ghagwal sector, which lies on the international border in the district.
"The Gawala Talab village is about 10 km from the international border. The gate and the compound wall of the house were completely damaged, but there were no casualties due to the explosion," the officials said.
Police and forensic teams arrived at the village and collected samples from the explosion site to determine the exact nature of the blast.
An FIR (First Information Report) has been registered at the local police station regarding the incident.
Further details are awaited.
The 240-km-long international border is located in the Samba, Kathua, and Jammu districts.
The international border is guarded by the Border Security Force (BSF). BSF troops are deployed to prevent infiltration, exfiltration, drug smuggling, and drone activities originating from the Pakistani side of the border.
Terrorist groups have been using drones, with assistance from Pakistani forces, to drop weapons, ammunition, cash, and drugs on the Indian side.
These materials are usually collected by operatives of the terrorist groups and then handed over to the terrorists to sustain terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. The BSF has deployed advanced anti-drone equipment on the international border to combat the threat posed by drones originating from the Pakistani side.
In addition to the international border, Jammu and Kashmir also has a 740 km Line of Control (LoC) situated in the Baramulla, Kupwara, and Bandipora districts of the Kashmir Valley, as well as in Poonch, Rajouri, and partially in the Jammu district of the Jammu division. The LoC is guarded by the Army.
