
Bokaro (Jharkhand), April 2 Seven people were arrested from different parts of the Bokaro district in Jharkhand on Thursday for extorting money from traders, police said.
Those arrested have been identified as Prince Gupta, Shyam Kumar Singh, Ajay Singh, Bhupendra Singh, Omprakash Pal, Jaynendra Shukla, and Golu Kumar, an official said, adding that weapons and ammunition have also been seized from them.
The action was taken after police received several complaints from people about receiving extortion calls in the name of gangs. Based on the complaints, Superintendent of Police Harvinder Singh formed a Special Investigation Team to investigate the matter.
Following investigations, the SIT has arrested seven people.
After arresting Prince Gupta, police were taking him to a location to recover weapons and ammunition when he opened fire on them and was injured in retaliatory fire, an official said.
According to the official, all the arrested persons have criminal records.
