Mar 07, Srinagar: A group of parents whose children are studying in Iran peacefully gathered at Srinagar's Press Colony on Saturday, urging the Indian government to arrange their safe and urgent evacuation amid the worsening security situation there.
The parents said they were increasingly worried about the safety of their children enrolled in universities across Iran, particularly in Tehran, where tensions have escalated due to ongoing hostilities and reported airstrikes.
Many families said they have struggled to remain in regular contact with their children because of communication disruptions and uncertainty over travel arrangements.
The gathering remained peaceful and aimed to draw the attention of authorities and the media to what the parents described as an urgent humanitarian concern.
They appealed to the Government of India, particularly the Ministry of External Affairs, to take immediate steps to facilitate the evacuation or relocation of Indian students to safer locations until the situation stabilizes.
Some parents said their children were facing difficulties leaving the country because of travel restrictions and delays in obtaining necessary documents from their universities.
They urged authorities to coordinate with Iranian institutions and diplomatic channels to resolve the issues and ensure the safe return of the students.
The parents emphasized that their appeal was humanitarian and apolitical, expressing hope that the government would act swiftly to safeguard the lives and well-being of Indian students currently in Iran.
The gathering concluded peacefully, with parents reiterating their appeal: "Bring our children home safely."
