Chennai, March 20 – Ace director Selvaraghavan, who is also the elder brother of actor Dhanush, has now announced that he has completed writing the script for the second part of the immensely popular cult classic, 'Pudhupettai'.
In a post on his X timeline, Selvaraghavan wrote, "Phew! Finished writing Pudhupettai 2."
The announcement thrilled fans and film enthusiasts alike. One fan commented, "The wait is finally over! Knowing your vision, Pudhupettai 2 won't just be a sequel – it will be a study of power. I'm expecting that raw, gritty Kokki Kumar evolution with a haunting background score. The King is back to reclaim the throne. Give us that cult classic soul!"
For those unfamiliar, 'Pudhupettai' is considered one of the iconic cult classics of Tamil cinema. The 2006 film, which featured Dhanush, Sneha, and Sonia Aggarwal in the lead roles, was a crime action drama. It was composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja and directed by Arvind Krishna.
Although the film received mixed reviews upon its release, it has since gained considerable recognition, with both critics and the general audience considering it a cult classic.
In the film, Dhanush plays the character Kokki Kumar, who has become a favorite among many, who are eagerly awaiting his reprisal of the role in the sequel. It is worth noting that director Selvaraghavan had announced the sequel in 2024.
The film has inspired several filmmakers. In fact, director Ganesh K Babu, best known for directing the superhit film 'Dada', recently revealed that Selvaraghavan's 'Pudhupettai' had reshaped his perspective on cinema.
Ganesh K Babu, who is currently directing actor Ravi Mohan's highly anticipated political thriller 'Karathey Babu', posted a picture of himself with director Selvaraghavan on X.
He then said, "'Pudhupettai' reshaped how I saw cinema. It guided #Dada and now #KaratheyBabu. @selvaraghavan sir became the reason I chose this path... the reason I became a filmmaker. Meeting him today felt like a circle closing. #selvaraghavan #KokkiKumar #KaratheyBabu."
