Itanagar, March 22 Arunachal Pradesh is building a larger movement to preserve its indigenous culture, empower youth, and position the state as a strong voice in the country's sustainable fashion ecosystem, said State Textile and Handicrafts Minister Nyato Dukam.
Addressing a gathering at the closing ceremony of Arunachal Fashion Week at Naharlagun, near here, on Saturday night, he said that it is not just a fashion show, but a part of a broader initiative to preserve traditions while creating opportunities for young designers and artisans.
"Today, I am proud to serve as the Minister for Textile and Handicrafts after witnessing the talent and creativity of our designers on this platform. What we are building here is not just a fashion event, but a larger movement – one that preserves our culture, empowers our youth, and positions Arunachal Pradesh as a strong and confident voice in India's indigenous and sustainable fashion ecosystem," he said.
The minister added that with support from the chief minister and the department, the government is strengthening market linkages, promoting indigenous textiles, and creating opportunities for youth through such initiatives.
Arunachal Fashion Week 2026 concluded after an eight-day showcase of indigenous textiles, creative enterprise, and cultural identity, bringing together designers, weavers, artisans, models, and industry stakeholders.
Awards presented during the closing ceremony included Millo Antu as Arunachal Pradesh's next top model (female), Tapang Taba as next top model (male), Osum Jerang Karlo as top fashion designer, Jiyi Ete as top weaver, and Zenith Khonjuju as top emerging fashion designer.
