
Jajpur (Odisha), March 27 A 35-year-old man and his pregnant wife died, and their minor daughter suffered critical injuries when a vehicle collided with their scooter in Jajpur district, Odisha, on Friday, police said.
The accident occurred near the Sankharidiha village on National Highway No. 16 under the jurisdiction of the Dharmasala police station.
An unidentified vehicle hit the scooter from behind and fled the scene, police said.
The deceased couple were identified as Subrat Kumar Sahu and his wife, Annapurna Pal (30), residents of Siha village under the Badachana block.
Their four-year-old daughter, Aaradhya, sustained injuries and is currently receiving critical care at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, police said.
Police said the family was returning home on a scooter after Aaradhya's routine medical check-up at a private clinic in Jaraka bazar in the evening when the accident occurred.
Locals assisted the police in taking them to the Community Health Centre at Dharmasala. They were then transferred to the SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) in Cuttack after their condition worsened, police said.
Subrat and his wife were declared dead on arrival by the doctors at SCBMCH. The minor girl's condition is reportedly critical, according to Inspector-in-Charge Chinmayee Sahu of the Dharmasala police station.
"We have seized the damaged scooter and are investigating the circumstances that led to the accident. A case has been registered in this regard," she said.
