
Balasore, April 6 Three people were killed in a collision between two trucks on National Highway 16 in the Balasore district of Odisha, police said on Monday.
According to police, a truck registered in Jharkhand was parked on the roadside near Dahisada on NH 16 due to a breakdown when a lorry carrying steel sheets, registered in Uttar Pradesh, hit it from behind in the early hours of Monday.
A police officer said that the accident occurred around 1 am. The front portion of the moving truck was severely damaged in the impact. Three people inside the truck cabin were crushed, police said.
The police had to recover the bodies by cutting the truck cabin in which the three people were trapped, the officer said, adding that fire service personnel were involved in the rescue operation that lasted for around three hours.
Immediately, they were taken to the Soro hospital, but the doctor declared all of them to be dead on arrival, police said.
Police said that the deceased persons have not yet been identified and are believed to be from Uttar Pradesh, as the vehicle was coming from that northern state. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem. A case has been registered in this case, police said.
