Jalna, April 6 The eruption of a black-coloured substance from the ground in the Samanagaon Road area of Jalna city on Monday was caused by the flow of electric current into the earth due to faulty equipment, leading to the melting of rocks, officials said.
According to the district administration, the situation has been fully brought under control, and normalcy has been restored in the area.
The Disaster Management Department promptly contacted officials of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) after the incident came to light. Based on information provided by the Superintendent Engineer, the fault was rectified around 4:45 pm and power supply was restored, according to a release.
Preliminary findings suggest that a conductor of an 11 KV satellite feeder came into contact with a V-cross arm and an RSJ pole due to a faulty pin insulator. This caused the electric current to flow directly into the ground (earthing).
Due to the rocky terrain in the area, the intense current generated extreme heat, leading to the melting of rocks and the emergence of a lava-like substance, which alarmed local residents, it said.
Officials clarified that the phenomenon was purely the result of an electrical malfunction and not related to any volcanic or geological activity.
