Mumbai, April 8 At least six out of 195 milk samples collected at toll plazas in Mumbai were found to be adulterated, while another was found unsafe during a special drive conducted by the Food and Drug Administration, officials said on Wednesday.

The campaign was launched to ensure food safety and provide safe milk to citizens in Mumbai and its surrounding areas. The campaign targeted vehicles transporting milk into the city, with samples collected at toll collection points for testing.

During the operation, inspection teams were deployed at six locations: Mulund (Anand Nagar), Mulund (LBS), Airoli, Mankhurd, Dahisar, and Shivdi, where milk tankers were checked and samples collected.

A total of 195 samples were collected during the overnight drive, of which 188 were found to comply with standards, six were substandard, and one sample was declared unsafe. In addition, seven samples have been sent for further action, according to the release.

Authorities also seized 11,080.5 litres of milk during the drive. Of this, substandard stock was sealed and returned to producers, while 90 litres of unsafe milk were immediately destroyed.
