March 9, Kohima: Member of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Nuklutoshi, has raised concerns about the impact of firecrackers on the environment, people, and livestock.
During today's session, he questioned why firecrackers are not restricted during Christmas and New Year, but are restricted during Diwali in the state, and stated that their use causes significant harm to both humans and animals due to toxic fumes and noise pollution.
In response to the query, Deputy Chief Minister (Home), Yanthungo Patton, said that the Supreme Court permits the regulated use of firecrackers subject to specific conditions, such as the use of certified green crackers, restrictions on timings, and compliance with prescribed noise and pollution norms.
Mr. Patton added that, in line with these guidelines, the state government issues advisories and directions from time to time, particularly during festive occasions, and called for public support in these efforts.
