
New Delhi, March 15 More than 10,000 people participated in a 'Fit India Mission' cycling event in the national capital on Sunday, featuring community engagement programmes in public spaces, according to an official statement.
The event, 'Sundays on Cycle', was organized by the Raahgiri foundation in collaboration with Fit India, the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre, the CAQM, NDMC, and the Delhi Police, the statement said.
Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood, who attended the programme at the Inner Circle of Connaught Place, said initiatives encouraging walking and cycling can contribute to improved public health and a cleaner urban environment.
"Promoting walking, cycling, and increased use of public transport enhances road safety, reduces air pollution, and helps build a culture of sustainable mobility," Sood said.
Besides cycling and fitness sessions, the programme featured street performances, puppet shows, and public awareness activities.
The founder of the Raahgiri foundation, Sarika Panda Bhatt, said the initiative aimed to reclaim streets for people and healthier lifestyles.
"Raahgiri" is about giving streets back to people and showing how safe, vibrant public spaces can inspire healthier and happier communities," Bhatt said.
