
Thrissur (Kerala), April 6 A case has been registered after kits containing pulses and cereals, allegedly intended to influence voters, were seized from a warehouse in the Manaloor constituency here, officials said on Monday.
In a press release, the District Collector and District Election Officer said that on Sunday, a flying squad, acting on a tip-off, conducted a search at a warehouse of a company called Champions Traders in Vadanapally.
The search led to the recovery of kits containing pulses and cereals worth Rs 72,542, he said.
Based on a complaint filed by the Executive Magistrate, who is part of the Election Commission's flying squad, a case was registered at the Vadanapally police station.
On Sunday, the Congress staged a protest in front of the warehouse, alleging that the BJP had ordered the kits to influence voters.
The District Collector said that in a similar incident reported elsewhere in Thrissur, another case has also been registered.
He urged candidates and political parties to refrain from activities aimed at influencing voters and to strictly adhere to the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).
