Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, appointed Shantmanu, IAS (Retd.), as the State Election Commissioner for the Union Territory of J&K on Tuesday. Akashvani Jammu correspondent reports that according to a notification issued by the General Administration Department (GAD), the appointment was made under sub-section (3) of Section 36 of the Jammu and Kashmir Panchayati Raj Act, 1989. According to the notification, Shantmanu will hold the office for a period of five years or until he reaches the age of 70, whichever comes first. The appointment will take effect from the date he assumes office.
The terms and conditions of his appointment will be notified separately by the government.
