
Deoghar, March 17 Four individuals have been arrested in Deoghar district, Jharkhand, for allegedly making fraudulent cash withdrawals from ATMs, police said on Tuesday.
SP Saurabh told reporters here that eight mobile phones, six SIM cards, 10 ATM cards, and tools used for trapping ATM cards were among the items recovered from their possession.
"Several complaints were received over the past few months from the police station areas of Nagar and Jasidih about ATM cards getting stuck in machines, after which unauthorized withdrawals were made from their accounts," he said.
Based on technical surveillance and other information, the police apprehended the accused.
During the investigation, it came to light that the accused posed as ATM technicians or bank staff to gain the trust of unsuspecting customers.
"They tampered with the ATM machines to trap cards. When customers sought help, the accused would trick them into revealing their PIN under the pretext of assistance. Later, they would fraudulently withdraw money," the SP said.
Further investigation is underway.
