February 26, New Delhi: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated on Wednesday that he had spoken with United States President Donald Trump ahead of a fresh round of talks scheduled for Thursday, aimed at ending the conflict.
Following the telephone conversation, Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote on social media that he had discussed ongoing peace negotiations with Russia, which he expects to soon progress into a meeting at the level of leaders.
He also mentioned that US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner were also part of the conversation.
Ukrainian President Zelenskyy said they expect the meeting to create an opportunity to move the talks to the leaders' level, adding that this is the only way to resolve all the complex and sensitive issues and finally end the conflict.
He further added that the two leaders discussed preparations for upcoming negotiations, including a bilateral meeting in Geneva and a broader trilateral round of talks planned for early March.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy also thanked the US envoys and praised continued American support, stating that air defence missiles supplied by Washington had helped Ukraine endure what he described as one of the country’s most difficult winters.
