In New Delhi, Vishal Bhardwaj described his latest film, "O' Romeo," as a "deep and unusual" love story, distinct from "Maqbool," "Haider," and "Omkara." The film, featuring Shahid Kapoor and Triptii Dimri, boasts stylized, funny, and violent scenes, but is not a direct adaptation of Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet," although it draws inspiration from the play's star-crossed lovers. Bhardwaj expressed confidence that "O' Romeo" will be his most successful film.
Bhardwaj revealed that he didn't expect to be recognized for his intellectual side, recalling a message from a childhood friend about "O' Romeo": "I didn't know you had the capacity for this kind of violence, blood, and gore, and of course, love."
Bhardwaj emphasized that "O' Romeo" is a unique story, and he anticipates its success, hoping to counter negative criticism. He is proud of the film's violence and love story.
Bhardwaj is known for his successful reinterpretations of Shakespeare's tragedies, including "Macbeth" and "Othello" in Hindi, and "Hamlet" in Kashmir.
"O' Romeo" is based on the real-life story of gangsters Sapna Didi and Hussain Ustara, inspired by a chapter of Hussain Zaidi's "Mafia Queens of Mumbai."
Produced by Nadiadwala Grandson in association with Vishal Bhardwaj Films, "O' Romeo" has already grossed over Rs 75 crore. The film also stars Avinash Tiwary, Farida Jalal, Nana Patekar, Tamannah Bhatia, and Vikrant Massey.
Shahid Kapoor plays a quirky, music-loving gangster who is skilled at killing his enemies. He has fallen in with Jalal and now works as a covert operative for an IB officer.
Bhardwaj plans to release reviews after a few months. He stated that he wants to create a spectacular story with its climax in a Spanish bullring.
