The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has reiterated that India's supply of petroleum and LPG is fully secure and under control. It stated that all retail fuel outlets have sufficient supplies, and there is no shortage of petrol, diesel, or LPG anywhere in the country. The Ministry has called upon citizens not to be misled by a deliberately mischievous and coordinated campaign of misinformation aimed at spreading unjustified panic. Currently, India is receiving more crude oil from over 41 suppliers worldwide. The Ministry stated that every Indian refinery is operating at over 100% capacity utilization. India has a total reserve capacity of 74 days, and the current stock cover is around 60 days.
The Ministry has also stated that there is no shortage of LPG across the country. Domestic refinery production has increased by 40%, resulting in a daily LPG output of 50,000 metric tonnes, which is more than 60% of the country's requirement. The Ministry stated that approximately one full month's supply is firmly arranged, with ongoing procurement efforts. Oil companies are successfully delivering over 5 million cylinders every day. The Ministry stated that the demand for cylinders has increased to 8.9 million cylinders due to panic buying by consumers, and has now decreased to 5 million cylinders again. Commercial cylinder allocations have been raised to 50% in consultation with state governments to prevent hoarding or black marketing. The Ministry informed that, in addition to domestic production, 800,000 metric tonnes of assured inbound LPG cargoes are already secured and en route from the United States, Russia, Australia, and other countries, arriving at India's 22 LPG import terminals.
