March 27, New Delhi: Foreign ministers from the G7 – Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States – are meeting near Paris under the French presidency to discuss major global crises, including conflicts in Ukraine and West Asia, along with broader regional challenges across the Indo-Pacific, Africa, and Latin America.

India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is also participating in the meeting, reflecting India’s engagement with partner countries on issues of global governance, trade, and regional stability.

At the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in France, he highlighted India’s priorities on governance reforms and economic resilience. In multiple sessions with partner countries, he underlined the urgent need for reforms in the United Nations Security Council, more efficient peacekeeping mechanisms, and stronger humanitarian supply chains. He also raised concerns relevant to the Global South, including energy, food, and fertiliser security.

He further emphasised the importance of resilient trade corridors, including the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor, and stressed freedom of navigation alongside cooperation on critical minerals.

The meeting is taking place against a backdrop of fragile global security, with the G7 positioning itself as a platform for coordinated responses to crises and economic risks. Discussions are focused on global governance reform, strengthening multilateral cooperation, and addressing cross-border challenges such as maritime security, migration, and critical mineral supply chains.

As global conflicts and economic uncertainties persist, the G7 aims to project unity and leadership through coordinated action. With participation from emerging partners like India, the meeting reflects a broader effort to make global governance more inclusive and responsive, while shaping the agenda for upcoming G7 engagements under the French Presidency.
